Best Southern Food in Spruce Pine

There's something about this place that I love. It's humble and the food never disappoints. I got the country fried steak with squash. I had to take half of it home! Normally I get frog legs which are my favorite. So easy to pass this place by or judge it as inferior because it's just a cinder block building. If you're visiting, stop in. If you are anywhere near Hwy 43 give this spot a try. Good down home cooking going on in this hidden gem! I'm hooked (pun intended) on the fish which is seasoned and fried to perfection. My wife added some fried shrimp to her order which were seasoned and fried to perfection as well! Both fillet orders come with 2 sides. I had the side salad and fried squash! The salad comes with tomato, cucumbers and cheese. They will also bring you bacon bits and croutons if you like. No additional charge! The fried squash was an awsome choice! They also offer baked potato, fries and steamed veggies as sides. They also have some delicious deserts and you can also get vanilla, strawberry or chocolate shakes!

This is my new favorite place. the food is fantastic. The staff is friendly.

So you say that you've had excellent catfish or shrimp and home cooking not until you've come here. I like catfish fillets and I do like fresh shrimp however this is slightly out of the ordinary. How often do you order shrimp or catfish and the breading is applied by hand The onion rings are large and crispy and done right The shrimp are good size lightly breaded and fresh. The catfish fillets are a little thinner than you might expect but they're lightly breaded - crispy and moist inside. we have been to the homestead at lunch for their buffets however this time we because of the covet thing we stopped by in order through the takeout window. waited for a few minutes took the order home and began eating and enjoying and complimenting that there's no reason to go anywhere else for fresh breaded fish with a nice light crispy crust.

Great atmosphere and very nice waitresses. They were very helpful and friendly. They make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in.
